Vail – An Outdoor Lover's Paradise

Located in Eagle County, Colorado, and surrounded by the White River National Forest, the town of Vail is an outdoor lover’s dream. Vacationers come from near and far to enjoy the aspen-cloaked Vail Valley, defined by the jagged Gore Range to the north and the granite Sawatch escarpments to the south. Coursing through the valley is the gleaming Eagle River.

In the winter, Vail is one of the country’s most celebrated ski resorts, consistently garnering top honors from skiers and ski magazines. With a maximum elevation of 11,570 feet, Vail Mountain has 33 lifts, 5,289 skiable acres, and 193 marked trails.

Winter and early spring are traditionally the most popular times in Vail, with visitors often scoring that elusive blend of thick, dry powder and azure skies.

However, summer is quickly gaining in popularity. Vail Valley is an ideal place to explore the high country by bike, on foot, or on horseback. There are also dozens of trails that meander through the White River National Forest.

For river fans, the Eagle River offers excellent fishing opportunities, primarily for brook and brown trout in the 6- to 12-inch range. And there is some thrilling rafting in Gore Canyon on the Colorado River west of Vail, particularly in spring when the river is boiling with snow runoff.

Spring, summer, winter, or fall, Vail offers something captivating for the outdoor enthusiast.

Vail Two Bedroom Beauty - There's Snow! - Property 100696

As 30-year, off and on again residents of Vail, we have much to share.

  • We welcome guests to our beautifully decorated “home away from home” Vantage Point condo.
  • Lionshead is a magnet for the top drawer skiers of the world.
  • Our condo is 200 feet from the covered and warm gondola which takes you to the top of Eagle's Nest – the gateway to the famous back bowls and on to all runs on the front of the mountain.
  • A favorite of ours is to grab a quick sandwich at the French Place. It’s right in front of our condo – about 100 feet or so on the way to the gondola. Just lean your skis against the door and come in with your ski boots on!
  • Montouk in Lionshead is fabulous for fresh seafood flown in daily.

Favorite Ski and Snowboard Spots

  • Vail is a skier's dream. With the size of the mountain and the number of trails, you could ski all day and not ski on the same trail twice. We usually just hop on the Gondola or a lift and go wherever the snow takes us.
  • We do, however, have a favorite - that is skiing the China Bowl in Vail’s Back Bowls.
  • For hiking, there are several trails near our condo. Two we especially like include Gore Creek Trail (right outside the front door and an easy walk into Vail Village), and Pitkin Creek Trail, (much more intense hike and great during the summer and fall seasons).
  • For mountain biking, take the Gondola during the off-season and enjoy an exhilarating ride down the mountain. There are also easy trails for those that want a more relaxing bike ride.
  • A trip to Glenwood Springs is always great way to pamper yourself and recharge after days of skiing, hiking or biking. The Hot Springs and Vapor Caves are only an hour away, and definitely recommended.

Choice restaurants and shopping areas

  • Our favorite in Vail Village is Sweet Basil. The chef has been there for over 20 years and the food is delicious. We recommend the caramelized onion crusted salmon. They also have a great wine list.
  • For more casual dining, you can’t go wrong with Pazzo's Pizzeria. The pizza is excellent and the environment is very family oriented.
  • Also, a must stop for lunch is Blizzard’s Mountain Deli. The Double Diamond sandwich can’t be beat. The staff is very friendly and attentive.
