Let Charleston Charm You

Hailed by Condé Nast in its 2007 annual readers' survey as the “number-three city to visit in America,” Charleston clearly captivates and charms all who are lucky enough to sojourn there. The idea of the “old south” still thrives in Charleston. Picture a city full of tree-lined streets, stately homes, and gracious hospitality, and you begin to develop a sense of modern day Charleston.

Charleston is renowned for its unique culture, which blends West African, traditional southern American, and French elements. As an old colonial city, Charleston has a wide variety of museums and historical attractions. It boasts 73 pre-Revolutionary War buildings, 136 from the late 18th century, and more than 600 built before the 1840s.

As winter descends upon the city, visitors need not brace for bad weather, because even the coldest month - typically January - features daytime highs in the upper 50s. Overnight lows stay in the lower to mid 40s.

These warm temperatures may account for why Cape Romain National wildlife Refuge is one of the largest over wintering sites for American oystercatchers and marbled godwits, two popular species for birdwatchers.

Charleston is made up of a main peninsula surrounded by numerous islands and barrier islands that are also part of the Charleston Metro Area. The City of Charleston proper includes the main peninsula, an area west of the Ashley River called West Ashley, an area east of the Cooper River, including Daniel Island and the Cainhoy Peninsula, and also parts of James Island and Johns Island.

You will discover that some of the most popular VRBO Charleston vacation rentals are located on the Isle of Palms, Seabrook Island, Sullivan’s Island, and Folly Beach. Most of these properties offer proximity to Atlantic beaches, salt marshes and wildlife – along with colorful local shops and restaurants. With the attractions of Charleston close at hand, visitors can enjoy the best of both worlds.

Total Luxury Home - Dual Masters, 6 Bedrooms, Pool, Elevator, Property 49211

  • Isle of Palms is known for its upscale luxury homes, great restaurants and miles of unspoiled beaches, yet does not have the high-rise condos, hotels, and busy "commercial" sections so familiar in many beach resort locations today.

  • If you are looking for a great getaway to share with family and friends, Isle of Palms is a perfect choice.

  • Dining opportunities on the island abound - our favorites are Morgan Creek Grill, overlooking the intercoastal with incredible sunset views and even better seafood.

  • The Boathouse, located right at Breech Inlet, is an ideal spot for sundowners as you watch the dolphin come in.

  • For a fine dining opportunity, look no further than the Wild Dunes Boardwalk Inn, a five star dining experience - don't miss the soufflé!

Wild Dunes Beach House, Property 56590

  • The lights, the sea air, the activities, amazing food, laid-back city sophistication brimming with southern charm. Of course it's Charleston and Wild Dunes at the holidays!

  • Thanksgiving parade at Wild Dunes. How often do you get to watch a golf cart parade presided by the Mayor? Residents and visitors at Wild Dunes decorate their golf carts and ride them around the resort - and many of the drivers bring candy for the happy spectators!

  • Walking around The Battery in Charleston at night - we love just taking in all the great eye candy and seeing the sparkling lights through the windows and doors.

  • Don't forget your best friend, Fido! Hey, he needs a vacation too. My home is pet-friendly and has a great screened porch where your dog will love hanging out and watching the squirrels scamper around the hundred-year-old live oaks. For a treat, take him to the off-leash dog park at the Isle of Palms rec center.

Brand New Home on Beautiful Lagoon, Property 112723

  • The holidays mean entertaining family and friends, and the best way to do this is to prepare and serve great meals.

  • This is why our house on Seabrook Island was built around the kitchen.

  • Of course there are top of the line appliances, three sinks, granite countertops, great lighting, etc, but the most important aspect is plenty of room for everyone to gather and be a part of the kitchen activity.

  • After all, the kitchen is the heart of the home where everyone wants to be.
