Palm Springs, California
The Bear family and I are off to a warm and sunny climate that has over 300 days of sunshine a year – beautiful Palm Springs, California!
I arrived in Palm Springs to a lovely temperature of 85 degrees and was welcomed to this beautiful mid-Century “Movie Colony” home. This lovely home has preserved time and really transported us back to the era of glamour when this home was built. With its retro interior design and ceiling to floor glass walls, this Palm Springs vacation home invited us to relax and reach for something tall and cool.
In a word, this home was swanky. Perfect for entertaining, from its fully equipped kitchen to a fantastic pool area with ample lounging and a great barbeque area with an exterior sound system, it is definitely an entertainer’s dream. The theme continues in the interior with circular seating and fire pit, flat screen TVs with DVDs, 42-inch plasma TV in the den – this home is not short on modern amenities.
Probably on of my favorite things to do was relax in one of the wonderful pool floats that were provided and soak up some of that wonderful California desert sun. Really this home made me relax and feel as if there was nary a care in the world ... truly a vacation.
If you can drag yourself from relaxing in this home, there is so much to do in and around the Palm Springs area. Probably the most popular is the exquisite golfing. There are so many famous courses to choose from, too many to name. The shopping in Palm Springs is just as extensive, from fabulous El Paseo Drive boutique shops to the Cabazon Outlets, there is something for everyone’s budget. Another very popular thing to do is stroll along Palm Canyon Drive or El Paseo Drive (the Rodeo Drive of the desert) and visit the over 100 art galleries. The dining in the area is exceptional and there is something for everyone’s palate and budget, all within walking distance from our vacation home. If gambling is your thing there are many casinos in and around the Palm Desert area at which you could try your luck.
If you are an outdoor enthusiast, there are many canyon areas to enjoy hiking, picnicking or just enjoying the flora and fauna of the desert, like Palm Canyon, Taquitz Canyon, Murray Canyon, just to name a few. It is a very family friendly area. Our twelve-year-old son enjoyed the Palm Springs skate park in the afternoons.
One very unique thing to do is take a trip on the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway, which will take you from the desert floor to the mountain tops of the Mt. San Jacinto National Park in about ten minutes. The temperature and elevation fluctuations are one amazing experience. The hiking trails are numerous and vary in difficulty.
Since this home is in what is known as the “Movie Colony” neighborhood, there are many homes near this Palm Springs vacation rental that are owned or previously owned by movie stars. A great map can be provided to tour some of these homes. They are architecturally fascinating and take you back in time. Going along with the whole movie star theme, you could take in a show at the famous CopyKatz Celebrity Revue, a show full of celebrity impersonators.
I highly recommend this property for a truly relaxing vacation and a unique look into the past with all the amenities of the present.
