AIA Sandcastle Competition in Galveston, Texas

If you and your family like sandcastles, AIA’s Sandcastle Competition is the event for you. Every June for the past twenty years, Houston area architects, engineers, and designers have taken their imagination to East Beach in Galveston to compete in one of the world’s largest sandcastle competitions.

Eighty teams vie for the Golden Bucket grand prize and other awards such as Most Hilarious, Most Lifelike, and Public Favorite. The teams are judged on technical difficulty, carving technique, concept originality, artistic execution, and site use. Best of all, visitors can view the sand sculptures up close and cast votes for their favorite designs.
