I had a fantastic trip to the Black Hills of South Dakota for a family reunion, and enjoyed staying in a spectacular private home nestled in the pines at the Terry Peak ski resort. This location provided us with an awesome view of the slopes, and is only ten minutes away from the historic town of Deadwood. It’s also convenient to the local grocery store and to several restaurants.

This upscale ski-in and ski-out home is the highest residence in South Dakota at 7,000 feet. With five bedrooms, a gourmet kitchen, a large heated garage with lots of ski storage and an expansive deck, this South Dakota vacation rental had plenty of room for our reunion with twenty-two other family members.

Deadwood, South Dakota, is a thriving gaming and skiing town with a colorful gold-rush past. Terry Peak Ski Area is typically open from late November to March, but Deadwood and the Black Hills area also offers year round outdoor and indoor fun – hiking, golf, biking, hunting and fishing, plus gambling halls and many restaurants offering some of South Dakota’s best dining.

When choosing a South Dakota destination, you can’t get much more convenient than Deadwood:

• 15 miles to Sturgis and the famed Sturgis Motorcycle
  Rally in August
• 35 miles to Mount Rushmore
• 40 miles to Crazy Horse Memorial
• 45 miles to Custer State Park

When you travel to Deadwood, keep in mind that the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally attracts about 500,000 visitors for the first full week in August. When you’re here, don’t miss the chance to see the famous faces at Mount Rushmore and the Crazy Horse Memorial.
